For our fall show, I was cast as Viola, Shakespeare’s heroine who takes on a masculine disguise as Cesario to gain employment with the hopeless romantic Count Orsino.
In attempts to woo a lady for the Count, Viola/Cesario finds themselves involved in a complex love triangle that blossoms from mistaken identities.
In designing Illyria, our director sought to create a timeless, haute couture world anchored by two distinct “houses.”
ORSINO: bright, light, feminine, pastel and playful
OLIVIA: dark, goth and brooding
Although acting in this production, my previous costume construction experience made me the “go-to” technician when less than a week before opening night, the crew still had “nothing” for Orsino. In addition to creating a signature look for the Count, I also took on sourcing and dyeing Olivia’s wedding gown using a turkey fryer for the final scene.
