MISSION:
Stray boldly from the Disney version of Barrie characters.
Avoid stereotypical “native” references.
Recycle and reuse whenever possible
The heart of my design/character influence in Stumped was the re-imagining of Tiger Lily and her band of female forest warriors.
While still in workshop iterations, I proposed the idea of basing the women on exotic flowers that could emerge undetected from the forest as if embodying a Rousseau painting.
The playwright immediately fell in love with idea—renaming the roles accordingly (Black Charm, Calla, and Spider).

Stumped, an original musical by Jackson Castello is based on the J.M. Barrie classic novel, Peter Pan. Expanding upon the grittier details of the original story, the musical reimagines the rivalry between Hook and Pan as a childhood friendship that goes terribly wrong.
